How Do I Figure Out What My Subfloor Is?

There are two different types of subfloors, Concrete and Timber. Anything such as Plywood, MDF, Masonite, Cork, Chipboard and Floorboards are not timber subfloors.

To determine what your subfloor is made of, you need to access the area beneath your existing flooring by carefully removing a section of the floor covering, and exposing the layer directly underneath; this layer is your subfloor.

Carpet:
Simply go to the corner of a room, and lift the carpet, lift the underlay also, this will reveal the subfloor.

AstroTurf:
Cut a small section and lift it, this will reveal the subfloor.

Tiles:
Simply chip up a small portion using a chisel and hammer you will also need to remove a small portion of the glue, screed, cement or sand & cement residue, this will reveal the subfloor

Floorboards:
Removing a small area using a crowbar and hammer, will reveal the subfloor.

Vinyl, Lino & Marmoleum:
Cut a small section and lift it, this will reveal the subfloor.

NOTE: There may be multiple layers, underlay or tile beddings blocking the vision of what your subfloor is, in this case, you would need to dig further down or contact our team today for help.
