How Are Metallic Epoxy Floor Garage Coatings Installed?
There are two different techniques to install Metallic Epoxy Floor Coatings depending on which system you choose. In each system though, a base coat will be applied, creating a permanent bond with the concrete.
Metallon 500 or similar high-quality chemicals are used as a high-build Metallic Epoxy Floor Coating that will provide the ultimate metallic finish with incredible depth of colour and the ability to use multiple different within the same floor. Once mixed properly with a drill mixer, this coating is poured out onto the floor and spread over the entire surface using a squeegee. Optional accent colours can then be poured onto the floor and gently mixed with a roller. A final top coat is then added to ensure proper protection from high traffic and corrosive chemicals.
Step 1) Concrete Grinding – If Required
Step 2) Concrete Crack Repairs – If Required
Step 3) Concrete Cancer Repairs – If Required
Step 4) Floor Levelling – If Required
Step 5) Installation of Base Coat
Step 6) Installation of Primer Coating
Step 7) Installation of Metallic Epoxy Floor Coating
Step 8) Installation of Ultra-Premium Polyurethane Coating
Step 9) Floor Sanding/Buffing
After completing the Floor Preparation stage, a 1 mm coloured self-level Epoxy Primer will be applied to the floor to fill in any minor imperfections and provide a clean and defect-free surface.
The effect coat is made of 100% solids self-level epoxy resin with metallic pigments or a mix of metallic and liquid epoxy pigments together. This low VOC self-leveling epoxy coating is designed to be manipulated to create different visual effects and the result will depend on the applicator’s skill level and taste.
Made of 100% solids epoxy with metallic pigments added, this self-levelling epoxy coating is designed to be manipulated to create different visual effects. Once applied to the floor, various solvents such as denatured solvents can be used to diffuse and move around the metallic pigments in the epoxy. This is what can create the look of flowing rivers and spots of fractured-looking molten metal that sit upon the surface of the coating.
The final coat is made of a thin layer of Ultra-Premium Urethane coating applied by roller, but before applying this coat, the floor will have to be buffed and sanded back to ensure all high points are removed. The Metallic Epoxy Floor Coating will provide many years of service but how they will look will highly depend on how well they have been taken care of, maintained, and protected.
