Why Are There Weights On My Concrete Grinder?

By adding extra weight, the floor grinder can create enough pressure on the surface to grind away unevenness and damage. Very hard and uneven surfaces may require even more weight to provide enough pressure to achieve the desired results.

Better contact with the surface
The extra weight allows the grinder to make better contact with the concrete, which helps to grind away damage and unevenness.

Increased stability
The extra weight makes the grinder more stable and easier to handle, which gives the operator more control.

Increased grinding capacity
The extra weight increases the grinder’s grinding capacity, making it easier to remove tough coatings.

Reduced risk of damage
The extra weight can help to reduce the risk of damaging the concrete floor.

Increased productivity
Adding weights can increase productivity by increasing the grinding pressure.

How Do I Change The Weights On My Concrete Grinder?

Lift the weight and slot it into one of the other positions, depending on the model of the concrete grinder. some may screw in, bolt in, or just sit there. For the satellite models, they pull up and slot back down.

When Should I Change The Weights On My Concrete Grinder?

You should only change the weights on your concrete grinder when the situation calls for it, such as when the concrete grinding process is taking too long or when you’re working on a hard surface:

– Hard Surfaces
Adding weight to the grinder can help keep the diamonds working on hard, dry surfaces.

– Uneven concrete floors
Adding extra weight can help achieve better results on uneven concrete floors.

– Removing coatings
Adding extra weight can help when removing coatings.

– Significant floor damage
Adding extra weight can help when there is significant damage to the floor.

– Increasing stability
Adding extra weight can help increase the stability of the grinder.

– Making it easier to handle
Adding extra weight can help make the grinder easier to handle.

– Increasing grinding capacity
Adding extra weight can help increase the grinding capacity of the grinder.

However, you should use extra weight with caution and only when necessary because adding too much weight can bog down the motor and damage the machine.

What Does Changing The Position Of The Weights On My Concrete Grinder Do?

POSITION 1 – Normally the weights will be at the back of the machine located at the bottom (position 1) this is to keep power consumption down on the machine and to avoid the machine running at over 100% which would cause an overload or cut out. However, if the machine is not running at the full performance that it can you can move the weights to the front of the machine instead of the back (position 2)

POSITION 2 – By moving the weights to the front (into position 2) it will increase the performance of the concrete grinder and the diamonds by giving it more weight and pressure. However, this can only be done if the power source and the concrete grinder can handle it!

You have to keep an eye on the gauge. Which is located on the “HVA Meter” This meter will show you the performance of the machine while it’s running. If it says it’s running at 100% that’s fine. If you put the weights on the front of the machine (position 2) and it says it’s running at 110% you know you’re overloading the machine so you need to put the weights on the back (position 1) instead of the front (position 2).

Do not push the machine over 100%. If it’s running at 70% you can increase its performance by moving the weights to the front of the head (position 2). But if the machine is running at over 100% you need to move the weights to the back of the head (position 1) to reduce the performance to stop an overload from occurring.

POSITION 3 If the machine is overloading (Running at over 100% and cutting out/switching off/blowing your power) nonstop even with the weights in (position 1). You have a third option (position 3) move the weights to the far back to reduce the weight even more on the head of the concrete grinder. You can place the weights on the far back of the machine to help it lift the head off the concrete slightly to reduce how much pressure the machine is putting on the concrete and diamonds.

This will reduce the power consumption & power of the diamonds by placing the weights into (position 3) on your concrete grinder which will reduce the weight on the head of the concrete grinder. This is used for softer concrete or for when the machine is still running at over 100% and keeps switching off.
